"Olympics Branding Milano Cortina 2026"- selected for the Juror's Silver Award at the 2024 Best of Ringling Annual Juried Exhibition. The Department of Motion Design's guest Juror, Erin Sarofsky.
A note from Erin Sarofsky:
"This design system is stunning and versatile.
There was a lot of exploration around how it would be deployed across the different deliverables and it held up really well. Often design systems can be so rigid that it lacks interest after the first few applications, but in this case there was surprise and delight in each comp, while also being consistent and well branded.
While there were no animated pieces in the set, the type and compositions were presented in such a way that I could just understand how it would move. As a motion designer, it's really important that even our static comps have that sense of movement and fluidity."

High Energy High Fashion:
Since the 2026 Winter Olympics are located in two cities, the concept needs to represent them both. Milan, a northern Italian city made a name for itself due to its contribution
to the fashion industry. In contrast, Cortina d’Ampezzo is a smaller, cozier, city nested in the valley of the Dolomite Mountains. Cortina d’Ampezzo is a sports town, with skiing and snowboarding among the mountains in the winter, and golf in the summer. Athletes come from all around the world to glide on the slopes of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Drawing inspiration from the spirit of winter sports in Cortina d’Ampezzo and the industrial presence of Milan, this concept uses bold, geometric shapes as an allusion to the toughness of the sports. Long verticals will also create drama and pattern, which references the fashion of Milan.

Logo:
The logo cleverly resembles Milan's famous Duomo and Dolomite mountain peaks, both sharing a symmetrical triangle shape. Some letters, like "o" and "c," hint at the arches seen in Italian architecture. The elongated letters reflect the drama and patterns of Italian fashion. Given Milan's status as a worldwide fashion capital, these references are appropriate.
